The judicial system is a critical part of the US government at all levels. It should – and must – operate transparently, fairly and impartially.
As President, I will direct the DOJ to look inward. As a nation, we must ensure that “… with liberty and justice for all” are not just words that we utter, but the way that we live. This requires a focus on issues of corruption and bias within the judicial system itself.
The statistical profile of different racial groups in our prison system is profound. It should raise serious questions for every American. This is not a simple problem with a single solution, but one that we must address.
As President, I will direct a review our justice system to identify reasons for racial disparities in sentencing.
I will work with Congress to release non-violent offenders who have demonstrated good behavior from federal prisons.
I pledge to appoint constitutional originalists to judicial posts.
